Jamaica
Beach
Bordered by Galveston to the east and west, the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and the east bay on the north, Jamaica Beach is a quaint island city with a free public access beach. The town encompasses less than 1 square mile in area, so everything is easily within walking distance. Showcasing clean, salty water and fine brown sand, it offers a peaceful refuge for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of the main Galveston hot spots. Vehicles are allowed to drive on the beach, which is the area of sand from the vegetation line to the water’s edge, and the speed limit is 10 miles per hour. It also borders Galveston Island State Park, offering easy access to its tranquil sites. Keep in mind that no lifeguards are on duty, so children and weak swimmers should always be supervised. Glass containers and open fires are prohibited as well.
