Between Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula, there is a ferry that runs between Galveston and Port Bolivar that offers free transportation.

There is always at least one vessel on patrol at any given time. At 6:30 in the morning, a second vessel is going to be put into service. After this departure, the two vessels will operate based on the volume of traffic, and they will space themselves so that they can transport passengers and cargo in the most expedient and secure manner possible. For the traffic during the summer and holidays, up to five vessels can be operated.
The maximum allowable weight for a vehicle is 80,000 pounds; its length, width, and height cannot exceed 65 feet; its height cannot exceed 13.5 feet; and its width cannot exceed 8.5 feet.
